Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

Today, my high school had a prayer service; seventeen of our students had a member of their family who has passed away within the last two weeks. At first, I had only heard about one death, then, I heard about five, yesterday I heard fourteen and today I finally heard seventeen from my principal. I realized that these numbers rise to the extreme each and every day. It really, truly pains me to find these occurrences to be so close to you and around you. How long will it be before I am hit first with the pain of loss? How long before I or someone I love feels grief and sorrow? I can't answer these questions. I don't really know many people who have died; only a few that I actually met. Those whom I have met and passed away, I did feel pain and I was sympathetic towards the family. Although I don't know a lot of those who have been put to rest, I still witness my mother and my grandmother leaving to go to funerals.. too many funerals. It would take them a while to explain to me who they are, or who they are related to exactly. Each time, I realize that I don't know much of my family, and what if I never get the chance?

In remembrance to those seventeen families... I am ever so sorry for your losses and I hope that you all come out of this strong and ready for what's ahead. I know you all have the strength to overcome this battle of grief. You and your families are all in my prayers. God be with you all.

“You can shed tears that they are gone,
or you can smile because they lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that they'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all they have left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see them,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember them only that they are gone,
or you can cherish their memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what they'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on." --David Harkins
